Oxford UMC Sessions of Legacy of Prayer on Saturday, March 6 and Friday, March 12 are being postponed to a later date, possibly in May. Further details will be posted when available.

Legacy of Prayer Coming to Newark Valley UMC

As local congregations look for ways to improve their spiritual lives, one thing research shows is that an active prayer life can aid in this area. This program is for individuals who are genuinely interested in helping their congregation enrich their prayer lives and who may be willing to take their learning back to their local church. Exploration will include such topics as: the power of prayer, characteristics of prayer, different types of prayer, breaking down prayer stereotypes, formula prayer and corporate prayer, communicating through prayer, barriers to prayer, useful tools for enriching prayer life, and teaching methods that Jesus used. Scripture is a vital component of this class, so participants are asked to bring a Bible with a concordance (check with your pastor to see about borrowing one if you don't own one).

In addition, there will be an entire section on effectively teaching this program so that you can take it back to your church and beyond! Come and discover what you already know! Come and discover what others have to share!

Saturday, April 10th from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Friday, April 16th from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Cost: $30/Person

Registration due to Conference Office by April 5th! Limited number of spots available, so register early!

New Faith Matters on Website

The lights went out. Chuck Johns compares a power outage he remembers in upstate New York in 1965, with that of one that St. Luke remembered in Jerusalem.

You can find Faith Matters by going to the Conference website and clicking on Columns & Blogs under “Featured” or copy and paste the following link: http://www.wyomingconference.org/blogs/detail/87

Upper Room Connection

Make sure you read the March/April issue of the Upper Room Devotional Magazine. It has a devotional in it written by Rev. Craig Gommer, Pastor of Tunkhannock UMC. He wrote it about a year ago for the Trucksville UMC Lenten devotional.

Council of Bishops President Asks Help with Survey

Late last year, the Council of Bishops formed a Call to Action Steering Committee in response to the global economic crisis and the need to build on the successes of aligning our mission and ministries across the church in making disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. The effort is also addressing the Four Areas of Focus as expressions of how we live as the body of Christ.

The Call to Action project is to "include recommendations for ways to reorder or reshape some structures and processes for The United Methodist Church. The intent is to build processes and patterns that help the Church better achieve its mission to 'make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world' and fully integrate the Four Areas of Focus (major ministry initiatives) into the fabric of the UMC connection."

As part of the research being done in connection with this effort, Towers Watson Consultants are conducting a survey on congregational effectiveness. Bishop Gregory Palmer, President of the Council of Bishops is asking church leaders to take part in this survey.

You can read more about the Call to Action Project at http://www.umc.org/calltoaction. This is also where you will find the link to complete the survey. Please forward this link on to others who you think would have valuable insights and encourage them to participate by completing the survey over the next two weeks.

Your participation will help assure that the Council hears and learns from as wide an array of UM leaders as possible.

Culture of the Call Church Award

The Foundation for Evangelism announces the NEW Culture of the Call Church Award. The purpose of this award is to recognize one local congregation of The United Methodist Church each year that has a history of having young people age 35 or younger respond to God's call to full-time Christian service as a result of their being active in the life of that church. Through this award, The Foundation for Evangelism seeks to recognize and highlight churches that are helping to raise generations of leaders with a passion for evangelism.

For more information about this new church award and the process for nomination, click here.

The deadline for applications is April 10, 2010.

Print the Nomination Form and mail or email to: Jack Ewing, The Foundation for Evangelism, P.O. Box 985, Lake Junaluska, NC28745 or Nominations@FoundationforEvangelism.org

If you have information that should be included in an iVoice, please send it to Don Perry at dperry@wyomingconference.org or Nancy Conklin at nconklin@wyomingconference.org. Please do not send information on fundraisers such as breakfasts, luncheons, dinners, yard sales, etc.
