2009 Session of the Wyoming Annual Conference

The 158th and final full session of the Wyoming Annual Conference was held June 4-6, 2009 at the University of Scranton and Elm Park United Methodist Church in Scranton, Pennsylvania.

Although there will be a final two-day closing session in 2010, we gathered this year in the context of worship to name this loss and for fellowship, community and celebration.  We ordained clergy into full membership and recognize confirmands who have made their initial commitments to Jesus Christ.  We honored clergy retiring from active service and commissioned provisional members as they begin their pastoral service to the church in new ways and through new relationships.

Our conference theme, Through the Waters, draws on Isaiah 43.  Isaiah 43 is rich with the images of waters: waters that are chaotic and threatening, waters that refresh and renew, waters that bring life to desert places.  Woven within this scripture is also the surety of God’s call in our lives to be witnesses of God’s grace.  As we gathered together, we moved together through waters: chaotic waters that will not overwhelm us, baptismal waters that will motivate our witness, living waters that will nourish our souls.
